Webshops, Wero checkout and AI for Dutch businesses

The Dutch market in 2026–2027

The biggest change for Dutch e-commerce isn’t a new law. It’s the checkout. iDEAL, the payment method almost every Dutch webshop relies on, is being folded into Wero, the European wallet backed by the banks. By October 2026 all Dutch banks are connected to Wero, and the Dutch Payments Association aims to complete the migration by the end of 2027 at the latest.

For shops on a standard plugin, the payment provider will handle much of it. For shops with a custom or API integration, payment providers such as Stripe describe manual steps: showing the “iDEAL | Wero” branding, adding Wero as a new method and switching iDEAL off afterwards. Trade media also report that buyer protection in Wero has been pushed back to early 2028, and that merchants will carry the burden of disputes.

The second driver is accessibility. Since 28 June 2025, webshops and services where consumers buy, sign up or book have to meet accessibility requirements, and the ACM handles supervision and complaints. Micro-enterprises providing services are exempt, so the firms that need to act are shops, hotels and booking platforms above that size.

E-invoicing isn’t urgent yet, but it is coming. Today only public bodies have to accept e-invoices. In September 2026 the government announced that businesses will have to send each other e-invoices from 1 July 2030; the bill is still to be drafted.

Working with us from the Netherlands

MEZA P.S.A. is registered in Sopot, Poland, inside the EU. Our team works remotely on CET/CEST, the same time zone as Amsterdam. We have no Dutch office, no Dutch phone line pretending to be one, and no KvK number. What we do have is a registered EU company with public KRS and VAT details.

We speak Polish, English, Ukrainian and Russian. In German we reply in writing. For customer-facing Dutch text on your site, we agree at the quote stage how it’s written and checked.

The working terms are simple:

  • a free quote within 24 hours, including weekends and public holidays, with a fixed price once you accept it;
  • a free concept before you sign;
  • a contract and a VAT invoice with btw reverse-charged for business customers;
  • payment in stages and 30 days of fixes after launch;
  • the domain and logins in your name, the project code yours once paid for;
  • a data processing agreement (verwerkersovereenkomst) under Article 28 GDPR wherever we handle personal data.

What we offer Dutch businesses

  • “iDEAL | Wero ready” checkout. We review how payments are built into your shop, update branding and flows with your payment provider, test refunds and order statuses, and plan the switch-off of the old method.
  • Accessibility check and fixes. A WCAG audit of shop or booking pages, code fixes and the accessibility statement drafted for your review. Technical work, not legal certification.
  • AI phone and chat assistant. For clinics, salons and hotels that miss calls. It answers routine questions, takes requests and tells callers it’s an AI, as the EU AI Act requires from 2 August 2026.
  • Guest assistant for hotels and B&Bs. Answers questions about check-in, parking or breakfast in the languages your guests use, and hands over to staff when needed.
  • Booking sites for holiday rentals and B&Bs. Direct booking alongside the platforms, with room for a registration number and house rules.
  • Website security basics. Managed hosting in the EU, backups and updates, plus your existing email kept working (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC) when the site moves.

Local points to keep in mind

  • Holiday rentals. Rules are set locally. Media reported that from 1 April 2026 Amsterdam cut the annual limit for holiday rentals in Centrum and De Pijp from 30 to 15 nights. Check your own municipality’s rules; we make sure your site can display whatever registration details are required.
  • Prices. Show consumer prices including btw, and business prices clearly marked “excl. btw”.
  • Trust signals. Dutch customers look for clear company details, general terms and no long contracts. We put company data, terms and contact options where people expect them.

03Questions

Questions we hear most often

Can't find your question? Write or call — we'll give you a straight answer, no strings attached.

[email protected]+48 889 009 550
01Do I have to switch from iDEAL to Wero right now?

Not overnight. The banks plan to finish the migration by the end of 2027 at the latest, and your payment provider sets the exact steps. If your checkout is a custom or API integration, it's worth planning early, because the changes there are manual.

02Do you work in Dutch?

We speak Polish, English, Ukrainian and Russian. In German we reply in writing. If your site needs Dutch copy, we agree at the quote stage who writes it and how it's reviewed.

03You're not in the KvK register. How do I check you?

We're registered in Poland: our KRS number, NIP and EU VAT number are on every quote and invoice, and you can look them up in the public Polish and EU registers. Business invoices are issued with VAT reverse-charged (btw verlegd); your accountant confirms the treatment.

04Does the accessibility law apply to my business?

It covers webshops and booking services for consumers. Micro-enterprises that provide services, with fewer than 10 staff and no more than €2 million in annual turnover or balance sheet total, are exempt. Check your own case with an adviser; we do the technical audit and fixes.
