Website and server migration
Who it’s for
Businesses that need to move something and worry about what might break on the way. It’s usually one of four things: changing host because the current one is slow or poor value; changing domain after a rebrand; switching platform, say from a site builder to a content management system, or from one shop system to another; or leaving an agency that keeps everything in its own accounts.
A migration is a one-off project. Once it’s done, the site can be hosted by your current provider, by us or by anyone else.
What we do
Before anything moves, we take stock. We pull the list of URLs from your sitemap, Google Search Console and analytics. We note the scheduled jobs on the server, every system that connects to the site and every record on the domain. That inventory drives the whole plan.
Next comes a full backup of files and database. Only then does work start. We rebuild the site in its new home, carry over certificates and configuration, and bring it up on a temporary address first.
If page URLs or the domain change, we write a 301 redirect map. Each old address goes to its closest equivalent, not wholesale to the homepage. We also rebuild your DNS, including email records, so mailboxes with your provider keep working throughout.
Before the switchover we test whatever earns you money: forms, basket and checkout, payment confirmations, booking widgets and CRM connections.

- A list of integrations: payments, couriers, accounting, booking software.
- Your own licences for any paid plugins and themes.

Technology and integrations
We move sites built on content management systems, shops on platforms such as WooCommerce or Shopify, static sites and custom web applications. When the platform changes, we export products, customers and content via API or CSV. Practically anything with an API can be reconnected after the move, e.g. Stripe, PayPal, Royal Mail or DPD shipping, or Xero.
What we don’t do
- We don’t start without a full, verified backup.
- We don’t dump every old URL onto the homepage.
- We don’t move mailboxes between email providers. We look after the DNS so your email keeps flowing.
- We don’t migrate pirated copies of paid plugins.
- We don’t pretend rankings never wobble after a move. We make sure the migration itself doesn’t damage them.

Usually not. We build the new version alongside the old one and switch the domain once everything works. For shops we briefly freeze admin changes so no order is left behind on the old server.
02Our previous agency won't hand over access. What can we do?
First we find out who the domain is registered to and whose name the hosting account is in. If your company is the registrant, we'll walk you through the registrar's transfer process. If it turns into a legal dispute, we'll say so plainly: we're not solicitors.
03Will our email stop working when the server changes?
It shouldn't. Before the switch we record every email-related DNS entry and carry it over unchanged. The mailboxes themselves stay with your email provider.
04We're changing our domain name. What happens to links already out there?
Every old address is redirected to its matching new page, and we file a change of address in Search Console. Keep the old domain registered for a good while so the redirects keep working.
